Aquazide is a diuretic medication frequently utilized for managing high blood pressure and reducing swelling due to fluid accumulation in the body. It works by preventing excessive salt absorption, leading to more frequent urination, which can help reduce fluid retention.
It is typically prescribed for individuals with congestive heart failure, kidney issues, liver cirrhosis, or edema caused by estrogen or steroid use. If you have kidney or liver conditions, gout, glaucoma, parathyroid gland disorders, diabetes, or allergies to sulfa drugs or penicillin, special precautions may be necessary before taking this medication.
Aquazide is generally recommended to be taken once daily. During treatment, you may also need to undergo regular medical tests and blood pressure monitoring to assess your progress.
Rarely, Aquazide may lead to some adverse effects, including eye pain, vision issues, jaundice, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, shortness of breath, foamy mucus in cough, wheezing, chest pain, signs of an electrolyte imbalance, or severe skin reactions.
Aquazide should not substitute other antihypertensive advice such as dietary and lifestyle changes. Follow the prescribed dosage, take it with meals, and preferably early in the day to prevent nighttime urination. It is advisable to avoid alcohol or over-the-counter medications unless approved by your healthcare provider.
Incorporate bananas and/or orange juice into your daily diet; do not use potassium supplements unless advised by your healthcare provider. This medication may cause dizziness or postural hypotension, so exercise caution when standing up from a seated or lying position, while driving, climbing stairs, or performing tasks requiring alertness until you know how the medication affects you.
If you have diabetes, closely monitor your serum glucose levels, as this medication may elevate them. Report any persistent flu-like symptoms, chest pain, palpitations, muscle cramps, breathing difficulties, skin rashes or itching, unusual bruising or bleeding, or extreme fatigue.
Overdose symptoms may include hypermotility, diuresis, lethargy, confusion, and muscle weakness.
